Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on recent advances in image processing and machine learning, with particular emphasis on mathematical models, intelligent algorithms, and interdisciplinary applications. Modern image analysis increasingly relies on the integration of data-driven learning frameworks and model-based methodologies to address complex visual tasks arising in medical imaging, remote sensing, computational photography, digital heritage preservation, intelligent manufacturing, and scientific imaging. The aim of this Special Issue is to provide a platform for researchers to present innovative theories, algorithms, and applications related to image restoration, enhancement, segmentation, reconstruction, generation, multimodal learning, visual understanding, inverse problems, optimization methods, and explainable artificial intelligence for imaging systems. Contributions involving deep learning, diffusion models, transformer architectures, physics-informed learning, variational methods, sparse and low-rank modeling, and PDE-based image analysis are particularly welcome. By bringing together researchers from mathematics, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and applied sciences, this Special Issue seeks to promote both theoretical developments and practical innovations in next-generation intelligent image processing technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
