Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Optimization problems arising in engineering, management, economics, data science, manufacturing, and decision analysis are frequently characterized by uncertainty, vagueness, incomplete information, and conflicting objectives. Classical mathematical programming methods may not adequately represent such complex environments, particularly when available data are imprecise, inconsistent, or partially indeterminate. Fuzzy theories provide flexible mathematical foundations for modeling these forms of uncertainty, and have increasingly been integrated with optimization, numerical analysis, computational intelligence, and decision-support systems.

This Special Issue, entitled ‘Advances in Fuzzy Optimization: Models, Methods, and Applications’, aims to present recent theoretical, methodological, and computational developments in fuzzy optimization. This Special Issue welcomes the submission of original research articles, review papers, and high-quality case studies that develop new mathematical models, numerical algorithms, solution methods, and hybrid frameworks for optimization under uncertain and indeterminate information.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Fuzzy mathematical programming;
  • Linear, nonlinear, integer, and multi-objective optimization;
  • Numerical and computational optimization methods;
  • Interval-valued and generalized fuzzy optimization;
  • Robust, stochastic, possibilistic, and hybrid optimization;
  • Multi-criteria and multi-attribute decision-making;
  • Evolutionary algorithms, metaheuristics, and swarm intelligence;
  • Machine learning-assisted and data-driven optimization;
  • Optimization in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0;
  • Supply chain, logistics, transportation, and scheduling applications;
  • Energy, sustainability, healthcare, finance, and risk management;
  • Uncertainty modeling in engineering and management systems;
  • Theoretical properties, convergence analysis, and computational complexity;
  • Real-world applications and comparative computational studies.

The Special Issue seeks to provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to exchange recent advances and identify emerging research directions in fuzzy optimization. Submissions should demonstrate clear mathematical contributions, methodological rigor, computational validation, or significant practical relevance.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
