Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid evolution of power electronic converters and advanced motor drive systems has become a cornerstone of modern energy, industrial, and transportation technologies. Over the past few decades, the field has progressed from basic modulation and control techniques toward highly integrated digital control platforms, high-performance semiconductor devices, and intelligent algorithms capable of meeting stringent requirements in efficiency, reliability, and dynamic performance. Today, emerging applications such as renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, microgrids, and high-precision industrial automation demand innovative control strategies that can cope with increased system complexity, uncertain operating conditions, and real-time adaptability.

In this Special Issue, we aim to bring together cutting-edge research addressing modeling, control, optimization, and implementation challenges in power electronic converters and motor drive systems. We invite contributions presenting novel control methods, advanced modulation techniques, intelligent and learning-based controllers, high-performance drive systems, and application-oriented studies demonstrating improved system performance. Both theoretical developments and experimentally validated works are highly encouraged. Review articles offering deep insights into current trends and future research directions are also welcome.

To present modern control, operation, and optimization strategies for converters and motor drives and to address challenges related to efficiency, robustness, safety, and integration into emerging applications.

  • Power converters for industrial applications.
  • High-performance electric drive systems.
  • AI- and ML-driven converter control.
  • Model predictive control (MPC).
  • Wide-bandgap devices (SiC/GaN) and fast-switching control.
  • Adaptive and non-linear controllers.
  • Grid-interfaced converter control.
  • Electric and hybrid vehicle drive.
  • Renewable energy integration.
  • Energy storage systems.

We seek original research articles, experimental validations, advanced modeling studies, application case studies, and high-quality review papers related to control, modulation, design, optimization, monitoring, and diagnostics of power electronic converters and motor drives.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
