Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Urban land-use policy that promotes sustainability gives a city the ability to maintain its economic, social, and environmental well-being in the long term. Maintaining green and blue infrastructure provides not only a habitat for wildlife, but also improves air and water quality, as well as enhancing urban resilience to climate change. The protection of natural areas implemented through zoning regulations can safeguard valuable cities' wetlands, forests, and floodplains from development. Simultaneously, incorporating green infrastructure into urban planning requires collaborating with different stakeholders and city dwellers to ensure that green infrastructure meets community needs.
Policies that prioritize access to basic services, affordable housing, efficient transportation, and green spaces for all urban residents enable sustainable urban development and maximize the benefits nature provides to people. Moreover, such policies reduce urban sprawl, preserve open space, and minimize the ecological footprint of cities.
Sustainable urban land-use policy cities face challenges such as climate change, urbanization, inequality, and environmental degradation.
The goal of this Special Issue is to collect papers (original research articles and review papers) to provide insights about the current state of land-use management, participatory land-use planning, and to identify conflicts and future scenarios.
This Special Issue welcomes manuscripts that link to the following themes:
- Spatial planning and land-use management;
- Green and blue urban infrastructure, peri-urban systems, and rural–urban interactions;
- Participatory land-use planning;
- Land-use impact analysis and possible conflicts;
- Land-use changes and accessibility patterns.
We look forward to receiving your original research articles and reviews.
