Computational Modeling in Bioengineering

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Computational modeling is a powerful tool in bioengineering, enabling researchers to simulate complex biological systems and predict their behaviors under various physiological and pathological conditions. Simulation results can enhance our understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of biological processes, behaviors, and properties. Meanwhile, computational modeling can also significantly improve clinical treatments and drive innovation in medical devices and regenerative medicine.

This Special Issue focuses on the latest advancements in and applications of computational modeling in bioengineering, aiming to gather high-quality research works that showcase the integration of computational methods with experimental data. We seek contributions that highlight the transformative potential of computational modeling to solve real-world biomedical problems, emphasizing the development of sophisticated models that simulate tissue mechanics, disease progression, drug delivery, and medical interventions. Additionally, this issue will cover the design and optimization of medical devices through virtual prototyping and simulation, advancements in regenerative medicine, and the elucidation of complex biological networks in bioinformatics and systems biology. By bringing together cutting-edge research, this Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in computational modeling, inspire new collaborations, and ultimately contribute to better healthcare solutions.

Specific topics of interests in this Special Issue include (but are not limited to):

  • Computational models for biological tissues;
  • Machine learning applications;
  • Medical device simulation;
  • Systems biology and network modeling;
  • Image-based modeling and analysis;
  • Tissue growth and remodeling;
  • Drug delivery modeling;
  • Mechanobiological processes.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Information is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
