Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the past few decades, social exclusion and health disparities have become a major concern worldwide. In 2015, the United Nations Member States adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which presents 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) and offers a wide and comprehensive framework for peace and prosperity for all. According to this framework, strategies to improve health and reduce health disparities must go hand-in-hand with other, wider goals and their related thematic issues such as water, energy and climate change. Coupled with these challenges are a rapidly changing society in which distant parts of our globe are becoming increasingly accessible highlighting the need for international cooperation and culturally safe care for all. In order to achieve Health for All, healthcare practitioners and services have a responsibility to address issues affecting health access through the reinforcement of fundamental rights and democratic values, the promotion of social inclusion, non-discriminatory active citizenship, and critical thinking, among other initiatives.

Papers addressing these topics are invited for this Special Issue, especially those focused on addressing health disparities, culturally safe care and the implementation of the SGDs at regional, national and international level.
