Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The World Health Organization defines quality of life as "an individual's perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns". Regular physical exercise positively affects subjects' physical as well as mental wellbeing and quality of life across the entire lifespan. Additionally, evidence suggests that sedentary behavior and physical exercise impact the quality of life of people suffering from several chronic diseases, such as pulmonary, cardiovascular, cancer, neurologic, and metabolic disorders. Nevertheless, despite the benefits, many people affected by chronic diseases are insufficiently active, and often these subjects fall into a vicious circle in which low physical activity is followed by an impaired quality of life and an increase in sedentary time; however, changing lifestyle habits is complex, requiring the consideration of not only subjects’ physical individuality but also behavioral and motivational strategies.

Papers addressing the relationship between physical exercise–sedentary behavior and quality life in patients with chronic disease are invited to this Special Issue. Randomized controlled trials, cross-sectional cohort studies, and systematic reviews as well as meta-analyses are welcome.
