Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is notable that, during the past decades, the morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease have been observed to be rising among working age population in some developed countries and many developing countries. Though multiple factors are suggested to contribute to the trends, workplace exposures have received increasing attention, particularly stressful experiences due to low autonomy, low reward, discrimination, violence, night shift, occupational physical activity, long working hours, high job insecurity, etc. Beyond these meso-level risk factors, macro-level factors related to labor market policies and global economic recession could also heavily affect workers’ cardiovascular health. Specially, life course approaches for cumulative adversities, interactions between workplace exposures and non-work-related factors (for instance, private life disadvantages and environmental stressors) have revealed new insights of total worker health. When taking a close look at the micro-level, research on psycho-socio-physiological pathways linking the adverse exposures to cardiovascular disease has strengthened our understanding of disease etiology, based on traditional biomarkers (allostatic load, heart rate variability, cortisol), as well as several exciting new spots such as immunity, telomere length, and epigenetics.

In this special issue, we provide an open platform to colleagues to address new findings and advances in cardiovascular disease among working age population. We invite you to submit high-quality original research articles or reviews that extend the current state of knowledge, and all research types are welcome, including epidemiological studies among initially healthy subjects for disease onset or among ill workers for disease prognosis/recurrence, laboratory-based studies focusing on mechanisms and biomarkers in vivo or in vitro, and interventional studies at organizational and/or individual levels targeting cardiovascular outcomes in the workplace.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
