Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Craniomaxillofacial fractures are a significant public health problem worldwide. They are often associated with severe morbidity, loss of function, disfigurement and significant financial costs. Their epidemiology is extremely variable, depending on several factors such as the geographical area, cultural and lifestyle differences and socioeconomic trends. For example, during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the incidence and features of craniomaxillofacial fractures have changed. In this Special Issue, we aim to identify the trauma burden and help to develop a more efficient system to plan resource allocation and to deliver care and preventive measures, establishing clinical and research priorities for the effective treatment and prevention of these injuries. Moreover, understanding of mechanism-based factors resulting in various patterns of injury is valuable to surgeons in the management of facial fractures. The identification of such patterns can provide surgeons with the ability to more effectively predict and subsequently manage most of these injuries.
