Health and Wellbeing in Long-Term Care Facilities: Multidimensional Strategies for Quality Care

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Long-term care facilities (LTCFs) play a crucial role in supporting older adults and individuals with chronic or cognitive conditions, such as dementia. As these populations continue to grow, it is increasingly urgent to ensure high standards of care, safety, and well-being.

This Special Issue invites contributions that explore the multiple factors influencing health outcomes and quality of life in LTCFs, including evidence-based clinical practices, person-centered care approaches, the use of digital tools, family involvement, and the impact of the built environment.

Studies assessing the clinical effectiveness of innovative care models are particularly encouraged, such as small-scale, home-like environments, integrated community-based services, and transitional or hybrid housing solutions, which aim to provide more flexible, respectful, and dignified forms of support. While these models are often rooted in environmental design, they also hold the potential to improve patient outcomes and enhance overall well-being.

This Special Issue encourages an international, culturally sensitive perspective. Given the diversity of healthcare systems and cultural attitudes toward care, contributions examining how innovative models fit within different contexts or respond to growing cultural diversity are welcome. By integrating multidisciplinary and cross-cultural insights, we aim to advance understanding of long-term care that is safe, inclusive, and responsive to evolving needs and identities.
