Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Biomedical engineering is experiencing a revolutionary transformation induced by the new advances in artificial intelligence and digitalization combined with new medical acquisition technologies and hardware. These innovations span a wide area of medical applications from medical imaging for improved diagnostics and clinical decision support to rehabilitation and wearable devices for personalized healthcare.

Despite the rapid growth of digital-enabled biomedical engineering, there are a variety of unmet medical needs in clinical diagnosis related to the reliability and accuracy of the AI-enabled methods for data acquisition and processing, big data management and innovative medical devices.

This Special Issue in Healthcare aims to highlight the cutting-edge developments and challenges in integrating machine learning techniques with new medical acquisition technologies in CT, OCT, MRI, ultrasound, multimodal imaging, design optimal sensing strategies, new AI-enabled computational methods applied to measurements collected from sensors or wearable devices for diagnostic prediction or rehabilitation and digital data management.

Potential topics include but are not limited to:

  • Medical imaging.
  • Biomedical sensing systems, CT, OCT, MRI and ultrasound.
  • Smart and wearable sensors.
  • Medical image processing and analysis.
  • Management of multimodal medical data.
  • Health informatics for diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and prevention.
  • Clinical big data management.
  • Clinical decision support systems.
  • Applications of machine learning in healthcare.
  • AI-based disease detection and diagnosis.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Healthcare is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
