Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue seeks to explore the impact of pandemics on economics, the integration of digital technologies in response strategies, and the evolution of digital public health policies. We want to gather lesson learned and new digital products and services as it becomes crucial to assess how these crises have reshaped economic landscapes, increased the technological advancements, prompted a re-evaluation of public health directives, and changed the behavior of doctor–patient relationship.

Digital Instruments in Healthcare: Contributions will focus on the role and effectiveness of digital tools like telemedicine, digital contact tracing, and AI-driven diagnostics that have been pivotal in pandemic response and management.

Healthcare Economics Impact: Papers will analyze the economic disruptions caused by pandemics, emphasizing how these disruptions impact healthcare delivery, quality of care, and patient outcomes. This includes examining changes in doctor–patient behavior, healthcare supply chain disruptions, and financial strain on healthcare systems. Studies should focus on how economic factors influence the ability to maintain high standards of care and manage resources effectively during crises, rather than purely on financial management or market analysis.

Digital Public Policies: The papers on this topic will explore the rapid evolution and deployment of digital public policies in healthcare that have been accelerated by the pandemic. Contributions should focus on evaluating the direct impact of these digital initiatives on healthcare delivery and patient outcomes such as effectiveness of digital interventions, scalability of digital solutions and insights into how digital policies have transformed traditional healthcare services, the adaptation processes by healthcare providers, and the immediate benefits or challenges faced by healthcare systems.

Doctor–Patient Relationship: The papers on this topic will explore if the relationship between doctors and patients has reshaped during and after pandemics, within the bounds of existing legislation to ensure the safety and correctness of medical interventions. The foundation of an effective healthcare relationship relies on the strategic application of prevention measures and a thorough understanding of healthcare laws. Additionally, optimizing the use of resources—material, human, and temporal—is essential for enhancing diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficacy.

The primary objective of this Special Issue is to bring together innovative research that offers comprehensive insights into the economic repercussions, technological innovations, and policy transformations induced by pandemics.
