Dear Colleagues,
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, despite substantial advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The increasing integration of molecular biology, genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and metabolomics into cancer research has transformed our understanding of tumor initiation, progression, metastasis, and therapeutic response. These developments have accelerated the discovery of molecular biomarkers that can improve early detection, refine prognostic stratification, predict treatment outcomes, and guide precision oncology approaches. Concurrent advances in multi-omics data integration, liquid biopsy technologies and artificial intelligence are enabling increasingly precise characterization of tumor heterogeneity and the dynamic interactions between malignant cells and their microenvironment.
Molecular biomarkers now play a central role throughout the cancer care continuum. Genetic and epigenetic alterations, circulating tumor DNA and cells, transcriptional and immune-related biomarkers and metabolic profiles are being actively investigated as tools for early diagnosis and prognosis, treatment selection and disease monitoring. Furthermore, the emergence of targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and RNA-based therapeutics has highlighted the need for robust biomarkers capable of identifying the patients most likely to benefit from specific therapeutic interventions while minimizing treatment-related toxicity.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for the dissemination of high-quality research and comprehensive reviews focusing on the discovery, validation, and clinical implementation of molecular biomarkers in cancer. We welcome original research articles and review contributions spanning basic and translational clinical research that advance our understanding of biomarker biology and their application in cancer diagnosis, prognosis, therapeutic decision-making, and treatment response monitoring. We will prioritize manuscripts providing robust data that are validated across independent cohorts over very preliminary studies. We look forward to receiving your contributions and to assembling a collection that highlights emerging molecular biomarkers and their potential to advance precision oncology and improve patient outcomes.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
