Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue of Genealogy invites thoughtful, scholarly, and innovative essays on the topic “Forensic Genealogy.” The goal of the issue is to explore the interrelation between forensics and family history/genealogy. The focus is on the interdisciplinary application of forensics to genealogy, and potentially vice versa. In this context, the intersection of forensics and genealogy is not limited to subjects with legal implications, but is expanded to include scientific and critical investigative analysis of objects, qualities, relations, and events as they relate to ancestors, research subjects, and related families. Contributors are asked to explain how forensics and genealogy intersect, and the impact this may have on future studies or the discipline of genealogy. The editorial team hopes to generate a transdisciplinary dialog that strengthens and broadens genealogical studies. Some possible areas of concentration may include, but are not limited to:
· How forensics can authenticate or disprove attribution of data or objects to a specific research subject or family
· How forensics may help prove genealogical events
· How forensics can corroborate non-forensic proof arguments and narratives
· How forensics can assist in deciding about conflicting historical evidence
· Exploring the interaction of forensic science and genealogy
· Exploring the intersection of forensic analysis, criticism, and logic with family history
· Exploring the application of forensic investigative techniques to solve genealogical problems
