Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Mangroves are important tropical coastal ecosystems that provide important ecosystem services and benefits to coastal communities. Despite their importance, during the past 4 decades, more than a quarter of mangrove forests have been lost through conversion to other uses. Effective management of these ecosystems involves strengthening institutional capacity, increasing implementation of appropriate legal measures, facilitating co-management and increased local community involvement and stewardship, and encouraging restoration of degraded mangrove habitats.
We hope to attract essays in this Special Issue that focus on research which is useful for the sustainable management of mangrove forests and ecosystems, experiences with community-based management and conflict resolution, as well as the increasing recognition of mangroves’ importance as a carbon sink (Blue Carbon) and as an important nature-based adaptation to climate change.
We are soliciting papers that explore challenges to managing mangroves, as well as innovative experiences and case studies that may be useful to resource managers throughout the world. Papers may cover a broad range of topics related to mangroves, including but not limited to the following: temporal studies of natural and anthropogenic changes in the structure and composition of mangrove restoration experiences; use of mangroves as nature-based solutions to global climate change, sea level rise, and storm surge from tropical storms; community-based management experiences; applied scientific research which is useful for the management of mangrove ecosystems; traditional ecological knowledge related to mangroves; and environmental education experiences applicable to mangrove ecosystems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Forests is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
