Who Will Own the Forest?

Sales and acquisitions of forestland continue to be active as market forces, globalization, and consolidation impact the forest sector. Over the last 15 years, forestry companies have largely sold their forestland throughout the United States and in other parts of the world, in response to increasing pressure for shareholder return, competition in the global market place and consolidation in the industry. This shift in forestland has ramifications not only for the forestry and the forest products industry, but also the investment and conservation sectors.
