Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Physical forces are relevant for a significant number of biological processes across many length scales. The field of mechanobiology, which lies at the interface of engineering, physics and biology, focuses on understanding how physical forces impact cell mechanics to modify cell behavior. This area of research has benefited tremendously from the development of computational tools to predict complex cellular behaviors based on cellular energetics, together with the establishment of quantitative tools to measure and apply mechanical forces to cells and tissues. Together, these have expanded our understanding of the physical principles driving cell and tissue behaviors.

In this Special Issue that is dedicated to the mechanobiology of cell systems, we invite colleagues to submit their contributions reporting the development or application of computational tools to the study of cell mechanics, particularly those related to the concepts of entropy and information theory. We also encourage interdisciplinary submissions that combine experimental results with computational modeling to characterize the mechanical response of cells.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following areas:

  • Computational models for mechanobiology;
  • Algorithms and software tools for mechanobiology;
  • Force-dependent dynamics of protein conformational changes;
  • Thermodynamics of nuclear organization and mechanics;
  • Self-organization and force production by the cytoskeleton;
  • Mechanical control of symmetry breaking;
  • Cellular mechanosensing and mechanotransduction

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Entropy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
