Wave Energy Converter Farms and Hybrid Systems
Topical Collection Information
Dear Colleagues,
The increasing demand for food, energy, and associated services to meet social, economic, and environmentally sustainable development has become one of the most challenging problems of contemporary and future times. The ocean covers more than 70% of the Earth, and it represents a vast source of resources to satisfy part of the growing needs.
The need to develop a sustainable blue economy has driven long-term strategies at different levels and regions worldwide. Traditional ocean sectors (e.g., shipping, fisheries, and ports) and emerging sectors (e.g., offshore marine aquaculture, offshore mining, marine robotics, biofuels, and other related services) undergo fast changes. These sectors require innovation and adaptations to compete with new technologies and to comply with the growing needs and new regulations for sustainable development.
The growth of these sectors requires more energy. Therefore, offshore renewable energies will play a unique role in the sustainable development of several sectors. Wave–energy farms and offshore hybrid systems, involving wave energy technologies, will be part of the energy mix needed to comply with the ambitious, but necessary, goals for a net-zero society.
This Special Issue aims to gather and disseminate the most recent advances regarding the research and development of wave energy farms and offshore hybrid systems, involving wave–energy technologies.
This comprises theoretical advances, new and improved designs, physical modelling, numerical modelling, applications, optimization and control, tecno-economic feasibility studies related to wave energy farms, multipurpose platforms in combination with plurality of wave energy systems, wind–wave hybrid systems, co-location of various offshore renewable energy systems, and other offshore hybrid systems that consider wave energy technologies.
We invite you to share your knowledge and work with a larger audience through open-access publications. Together, we can drive the necessary advances in scientific and technological knowledge to co-create a positive and significant impact on our economies and societies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
