Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Guest Editor is inviting submissions to a Special Issue of Energies on the subject area of “Fluid Dynamics in Heat Exchangers”. Heat exchanger design practices historically relied on correlations to predict the aerothermal performances of typical geometrical configurations. However, design methodologies have considerably evolved in recent years. Some examples of evolution in the field are the introduction of additive manufacturing techniques that allow more complex shapes and fin designs, or new optimization techniques using computational fluid dynamics. These new tools also require experimental databases for validation in increasingly challenging flow and fluid conditions, and with more and more precision in the measurements.

This Special Issue will deal with contributions leading the path to the new generation of heat exchangers with improved aerothermal performances. All applications of thermal management as well as fluids and heat exchanger types will be accepted as long as novelty in design practice, manufacturing, or validation can be shown.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Heat exchangers for aeronautics;
  • Heat exchangers in additive manufacturing;
  • Heat exchangers and new fluids;
  • Optimization techniques for heat exchanger design;
  • New structures for improved aerothermal performances;
  • Computational fluid dynamics applied to heat exchangers;
  • Experimental validation of novel heat exchanger designs;
  • Measurement techniques for improved heat exchanger characterization;
  • Ground to flight design methodologies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
