Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sleep is a vital biological process that plays a crucial role in maintaining physical health, regulating emotions, and enhancing cognitive functioning throughout an individual’s lifespan. Increasing evidence underscores the bidirectional relationship between sleep quality and mental well-being; inadequate sleep can exacerbate psychiatric symptoms and cognitive decline, while psychological distress frequently disrupts sleep architecture. The purpose of this Special Issue is to compile original research (both qualitative and quantitative analyses; cross-sectional and longitudinal studies), systematic reviews, and meta-analyses that explore the influence of sleep quality on individual health trajectories, with a specific focus on developmental, neuropsychological, and psychosomatic conditions.

We invite contributions that examine the impact of sleep on brain development, executive functioning, emotional dysregulation, resilience, and overall quality of life within both clinical and non-clinical populations. Studies that investigate sleep disorders, including insomnia, parasomnias, and sleep apnea, along with their comorbidities, as well as interventions aimed at improving sleep hygiene or regulating chronobiological rhythms, are highly encouraged. Submissions that adopt a multidisciplinary approach—encompassing neuropsychology, behavioral medicine, psychiatry, and digital health—will be particularly valued.

It is our goal that this Special Issue will provide a comprehensive and innovative overview of the role of sleep within the broader context of health promotion and psychological care.
