Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Remittances are an important source of income for most developing countries. In fact, according to World Bank data, in 2024, remittances exceeded USD 600 billion, placing them in first place ahead of foreign direct investment (FDI) and development aid. As a result, remittances are a hotly debated topic among politicians, researchers, and academics. This is because their study touches on human, economic, financial, and political aspects. Today, remittances must be considered in the development strategies of both origin countries and international institutions.
In this context, this Special Issue will focus on research concerning the economic, social, demographic, political, and environmental factors that can influence remittances and their possible overall impact on countries of origin. We also welcome research papers that study the impact of crises and political changes in host and home countries on migrants' remittance behavior, examine the response of remittances to economic changes in host countries, and revisit their impacts on labor, money, and goods and services markets in home countries. Other topics related to remittances in general are also welcome.
