Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, advances in high-throughput sequencing and multi-omics approaches have transformed understanding of the oral microbiota, revealing how shifts in biofilm composition and function drive common oral diseases such as caries and periodontitis. This Special Issue, “Advances in Oral Microbiota-Driven Strategies for Oral Disease Prevention”, focuses on extending this knowledge to design precise, ecology-based preventive interventions that maintain or restore a health-associated oral ecosystem. There is growing interest in microbiota-modulating strategies, including probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics, dietary and behavioural interventions, targeted antimicrobial approaches, microbiome transplantation, and biofilm-responsive biomaterials.

The aim of this Special Issue is to synthesise current evidence on oral microbiota-driven preventive approaches, from conventional interventions to cutting-edge modalities. We welcome submissions that evaluate how these strategies can be integrated into routine dental care, community programs, and public health policy, especially in high-risk or underserved populations.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
