Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue on “Recent Innovations and Implications of CAD/CAM Technology in Dentistry”. Over the past decade, computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems have revolutionized clinical workflows in dentistry, driving precision, efficiency, and patient satisfaction. From digital impressions and chairside restorations to customized prosthetics and surgical guides, CAD/CAM technology is redefining clinical standards and laboratory practices. As new materials and integrated digital systems continue to emerge, it is crucial to critically evaluate their performance, clinical implications, and long-term impact on dental healthcare delivery.
Aim and scope:
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for sharing original research, clinical studies, and critical reviews that explore the most recent advances and applications of CAD/CAM in all branches of dentistry. We welcome multidisciplinary contributions, especially those that bridge dental materials, bioengineering, computer science, and digital health.
The scope aligns with the journal’s objective to highlight cutting-edge developments and promote translational research in dental science and technology. This Special Issue particularly seeks to foster collaboration between academia, clinicians, and the dental industry to address challenges and future directions in CAD/CAM technology.
Suggested Themes and Article Types:
In this Special Issue, original research articles, case studies, and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Digital impression systems and intraoral scanning technologies;
- Chairside CAD/CAM workflows and single-visit dentistry;
- CAD/CAM materials: ceramics, polymers, hybrid materials;
- Prosthodontic and orthodontic applications of CAD/CAM;
- Integration with 3D printing and additive manufacturing;
- Surgical planning and implantology using CAD/CAM;
- Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in CAD/CAM systems;
- Biomechanical analysis and digital occlusion;
- Clinical performance and outcomes of CAD/CAM restorations;
- Patient-centered approaches and cost-effectiveness of CAD/CAM solutions.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Dentistry Journal is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
