Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Gas sensors based on functional nanomaterials represent a cutting-edge field with transformative potential across smart healthcare, environmental monitoring, industrial safety, and beyond. The convergence of novel materials—such as metal oxides, 2D structures, heterostructures, MOFs, biocompatible systems, and flexible/wearable architectures—is driving unprecedented advances in sensor sensitivity, selectivity, response speed, and adaptability to complex or extreme environments. Coupled with the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), these innovations pave the way for fully integrated, intelligent sensing networks.

This Special Issue aims to compile high-quality original research and review articles that explore the latest developments in the design, fabrication, characterization, and application of advanced functional materials for gas sensing. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Novel sensing materials and nanocomposites;
  • Theoretical and computational studies of gas–material interactions (e.g., DFT simulations);
  • Innovative fabrication, manufacturing, and integration strategies;
  • Mechanisms of gas-sensing and performance enhancement;
  • High-performance sensing under real-world conditions (e.g., high humidity, extreme temperatures);
  • Integration into flexible, wearable, or miniaturized devices;
  • Applications in breath analysis, environmental surveillance, wearable diagnostics, and IoT-enabled systems.

We welcome contributions that bridge fundamental understanding with practical sensor development, showcasing how material innovation and mechanistic insight can drive the next generation of intelligent, selective, and robust gas sensors.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Chemosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
