Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, “Bio-Inspired Cross-Domain Dynamics: Advances in Aerial-Aquatic Multimodal Vehicles”, aims to explore recent breakthroughs in the design, modeling, control, and application of vehicles capable of transitioning between air and water. The shift across these two distinct fluid environments presents significant challenges in fluid dynamics, structural resilience, propulsion adaptation, and autonomous control. A central theme of this Special Issue is the application of biomimicry, where insights from natural systems—such as the analysis of biomimetic behavior characteristics and their mapping mechanisms—inform the development of efficient and robust cross-domain vehicles. Contributions are encouraged on bio-inspired morphing structures, adaptive propulsion systems, and advanced computational and experimental methods that enable stable aerial–aquatic mobility. This collection seeks to compile cutting-edge research at the intersection of engineering and biomimicry, with potential applications in environmental monitoring, marine exploration, and search-and-rescue operations.

Biomimetics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
