Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Substance use disorders (SUDs) remain a pressing global health challenge, with significant consequences for individuals, families, and communities. Understanding the complex interplay of biological, psychological, and social risk factors is essential for advancing prevention and treatment. These risk factors often intersect with broader determinants such as poverty, trauma, stigma, and comorbid mental and physical health conditions, contributing to the persistence and recurrence of substance-related harms.
The aim of this Special Issue, titled “Risk Factors and Integrated Interventions in Substance Use Disorders,” is to bring together high-quality research that deepens our understanding of vulnerabilities while also highlighting effective, evidence-based interventions. We particularly welcome contributions that examine integrated approaches—those combining psychosocial and pharmacological treatments, addressing co-occurring conditions, or bridging healthcare, social care, and community systems. Studies employing innovative methodologies, implementation science frameworks, or policy-relevant perspectives are encouraged, as are those that foreground equity, accessibility, and service user experiences.
By focusing on both risk factors and integrated responses, we seek to advance knowledge that informs clinical practice, public health strategies, and policy development. We invite original research articles, systematic reviews, case studies, and perspectives that contribute to improving outcomes for people affected by substance use disorders.
