Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, a rapidly expanding body of research has shed light on the characteristics, dynamics, consequences, and legal frameworks surrounding technology-facilitated violence. At the same time, our understanding of intimate partner abuse has also expanded to include non-traditional forms of abuse such as coercive control. It is therefore my pleasure to announce this Special Issue in Behavioral Sciences, focusing on the intersection of these phenomena: technology-facilitated abuse in intimate relationships. The issue scope includes such behaviours as cyberstalking, technology-facilitated coercive control, digital surveillance, non-consensual sharing of intimate imagery, sextortion, and deepfake sexual abuse within the context of intimate relationships or ex-relationships. Contributions may explore these phenomena through the lenses of prevalence, perpetrator characteristics and motivations, victim impact and help-seeking behaviour, and/or attitudes towards and understanding of these behaviours. This body of work is intended to shed light on key questions in the literature, such as the applicability of traditional theories of intimate partner abuse to the digital sphere; the perceived acceptability of digital forms of control and abuse across different generations and cultures; and the unique harms of image-based sexual abuse when the perpetrator is a current or former intimate partner.
I look forward to receiving your contributions!
