Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The field of Recommender Systems research is continuously evolving. The Deep Learning revolution has led the way to innovative models pushing forward the state of the art in performance, accuracy, scalability, and business impact, as well as opening the door to new scenarios and the inclusion of more complex data sources such as text, images, etc. Moreover, one of the consequential side effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a dramatic surge in e-commerce activity and greater interest in online recommendations across the board.

As these algorithmic advancements are changing the landscape and revolutionizing the field, it has also become evident to all that driving performance and accuracy by themselves are not enough. Real-world recommender systems need to consider additional factors, such as ethical considerations, fairness, privacy, transparency, explainability, and much more.

In this Special Issue, we would like to highlight new and innovative work focused on recommender systems research. We invite you to present high-quality research in one or more areas revolving around the current state of the art and future of recommender systems in practice and theory. In addition, quality manuscripts on system challenges, real-world implementations, reproducibility, and experiments are, of course, very welcome.
