Dear Colleagues,
The negative impact of climate change and the increased attention paid to the environment have prompted researchers to explore alternatives to conventional construction materials. Indeed, nanomaterials, nanocomposites, biocomposites, and smart materials have became more and more important in civil engineering. The extraordinary mechanical and physical properties of nanomaterials have opened up new applications in structural reinforcements and energy harvesting. Cement and polymer nanocomposites are employed for structures with enhanced mechanical properties, durability, and weather resistance. Green composites are used for soil strengthening and for coatings with excellent UV-blocking performance. The above are just some of the many applications of these innovative materials, which are dramatically reshaping various fields of engineering.
The optimal use of novel materials requires a deep knowledge of their mechanical response under different stress states. Although extensive research was conducted on this topic, accurate mechanical models are still lacking. This Special Issue aims to provide insights into the latest analytical and numerical models. Elastic and inelastic behaviors under both static and dynamic loads are considered.
Analytical, numerical, and experimental studies focused on the behavior of nanomaterials, metamaterials, and sustainable materials are welcome in this Special Issue, as well as studies on composites. We appreciate submissions of both original research and review articles.
The scope of the Special Issue can include, but is not limited to, the following areas:
- Innovative materials;
- Composite materials;
- Computational and experimental mechanics;
- Finite element modeling;
- Linear and nonlinear analysis;
- Elastic and inelastic responses;
- Material characterization and optimization;
- Mechanical performance and durability.
