Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Industry 4.0 represents the fourth industrial revolution, integrating digital technologies, automation, and real-time data into industrial processes, a context in which intelligent automation technologies play a crucial role, transforming operations across various industrial sectors. Research into the application of intelligent automation technologies is therefore fundamental to the digital transformation and modernization of industries in the Industry 4.0 era. Achieving the objectives intelligent automation technologies in Industry 4.0 include creating and implementing advanced intelligent automation technologies, such as intelligent control systems, and using artificial intelligence in automation. These approaches promise to further elevate automation technology, replacing operators with artificial intelligence for decision-making. Intelligent automation technologies have demonstrated enormous potential through successful implementation in various industrial fields, significantly impacting the global promotion of Industry 4.0. Consequently, this Special Issue emphasizes advanced intelligent control and automation, and we invite submissions of high-quality manuscripts from researchers, engineers, and industry professionals. Manuscripts must be original and report significant research advances.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Autonomous robotic systems for Industry 4.0;
- Intelligent process optimization and control;
- Adaptive scheduling and resource allocation;
- Smart sensors and IoT integration for real-time monitoring and decision-making;
- Intelligent process automation and simulation in Industry 4.0;
- Machine learning for Industry 4.0 applications;
- Computer vision for intelligent automation in Industry 4.0;
- Digitization, virtualization, and simulation of processes and digital twins.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
