Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the increasing depth of coal mining, deep coal seams are facing complex geological conditions such as "high ground stress, high geothermal temperature, high gas pressure, and low permeability". Gas disasters exhibit new patterns and characteristics, posing a severe threat to mine safety production. Traditional gas governance technologies have encountered numerous challenges in the deep-mining environment, and their effectiveness, economy, and applicability are facing serious tests.

Therefore, the research, development, and application of new gas governance technologies suitable for deep-seam conditions, especially those advancing towards intelligence and precision, are of great theoretical and practical significance for ensuring coal mine safety, improving resource recovery rates, and realizing clean energy utilization under the "dual carbon" goals. This Special Issue aims to centrally display the latest research achievements, innovative technologies, and engineering practice experiences in the field of intelligent prevention, control, and precision drainage of deep coal seam gas disasters, providing a high-level academic exchange platform for scholars, engineers, and technical personnel in related fields worldwide.

The fields of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, gas occurrence patterns in deep coal seams, new theories and technologies for gas drainage, new materials and equipment for disaster prevention, and intelligent monitoring and early warning systems. We welcome the submission of original research that has achieved breakthroughs and important application results in deep gas governance.

With this Special Issue, we aim to publish high-quality, original research papers focused on, but not limited to, the following interdisciplinary fields:

  • Geomechanics and permeability evolution of deep coal seams;
  • Gas occurrence patterns and transport mechanisms in deep coal seams;
  • Efficient gas drainage technologies;
  • Stress relief and permeability enhancement technologies for coal seams;
  • Chemical and biological stimulation technologies for gas drainage;
  • Intelligent monitoring, early warning, and prevention of gas disasters;
  • New materials and equipment for gas governance;
  • Deep mine ventilation and gas control;
  • Synergistic development of gas governance and coalbed methane;
  • Numerical simulation and big data analysis in gas governance engineering.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
