Young Investigator Award

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Antibiotics 2020 Young Investigator Award is Dr. Cesar de la Fuente.
Dr. Cesar de la Fuente is the Presidential Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a leader of his generation of computational and synthetic biologists pushing the frontiers of antibiotic discovery. His out-of-the-box work is having a profound impact on the design and synthesis of antimicrobial medicines and on the field of infectious diseases as a whole. Dr. Cesar de la Fuente received his PhD in 2014 and has an outstanding publication record, comprising 91 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and over 10 international patents. His Scopus Scientific Citations number is 4600, and his Hirsch index is 31. He is clearly a rising star in the field of antibiotic discovery, microbiology, synthetic biology, computational biology, and infectious diseases. He has received substantial funding for his independent work and is also an active and leading entrepreneur, and some of his patents involving the use of synthetic peptides for the treatment of infectious diseases have been licensed to a number of companies and are currently under development. As the awardee, Dr. Cesar de la Fuente will receive an honorarium of CHF 2000, an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of December 2021 in Antibiotics after peer review, and an engraved plaque.
