Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid proliferation of mobile applications in sectors such as finance, healthcare, and logistics has heightened the need for robust privacy and security mechanisms. Traditional centralized approaches pose risks due to single points of failure, limited transparency, and constrained user control over personal data. Blockchain technology introduces a paradigm shift by enabling decentralized trust, immutable data structures, and programmable control via smart contracts. However, applying blockchain to mobile environments requires algorithmic innovations that address scalability, efficiency, and usability under constrained device and network conditions.
This Special Issue focuses on the algorithmic foundations and advances that enable blockchain-based privacy and security models tailored to mobile applications. We welcome original research and survey articles that explore new algorithms, protocols, and optimization techniques that tackle the challenges of secure and private mobile computing through blockchain technologies. Submissions that present formal analyses, provably secure designs, and experimental validations are particularly encouraged.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Blockchain-based cryptographic algorithms: lightweight encryption, hashing, and signature schemes suitable for mobile platforms.
- Privacy-preserving algorithms: algorithms employing zero-knowledge proofs, homomorphic encryption, ring signatures, and secure multi-party computation in mobile blockchain systems.
- Consensus mechanisms: energy-efficient, low-latency consensus algorithms optimized for mobile and edge environments, including DAG-based and BFT variants.
- Resource-aware protocols: algorithmic strategies for minimizing computation, storage, and communication overhead on mobile devices.
- Smart contract optimization: algorithms for gas-efficient execution, automated verification, and secure contract synthesis.
- Data integrity and authentication: protocols and detection algorithms for ensuring data provenance, anti-replay, and secure access control in mobile apps.
- Blockchain sharding and layer-2 algorithms: solutions for enhancing scalability and throughput in mobile blockchain infrastructures.
- Machine learning and AI for blockchain security: algorithms that apply federated learning or anomaly detection to mobile blockchain networks.
- Simulation and benchmarking algorithms: tools and frameworks for analyzing performance, resilience, and scalability under various mobile use cases.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for algorithm developers, systems engineers, and researchers to advance the state of the art at the intersection of blockchain, mobile security, and privacy. We look forward to your contributions to this exciting and impactful research area.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Algorithms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
