Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
As global energy demand continues to grow and sustainable development goals are set, the energy sector is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. To explore the latest energy research and technological innovations in depth, and to investigate sustainable methods to enhance oil recovery, we are delighted to announce that the 2nd International Conference on Energy and Enhanced Oil Recovery, hosted by the Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU), will be held in Almaty from April 15–17, 2026. This event will provide a unique platform for global professionals, scholars, and researchers in the fields of energy and enhanced oil recovery to exchange ideas, discuss the latest research advancements and technological innovations in energy and related fields, and explore new theories and technologies in enhancing oil recovery.
This Special Issue, together with the joint Special Issue in the journal Colloids and Interfaces, is a collection of original works presented at this conference. The scope of this Special Issue mainly covers the following topics:
- Energy transition, and particularly exploring how a smooth transition and sustainable development in the energy sector can be achieved.
- Environmental issues, exploring ways of minimizing the impact of energy and crude oil extraction on the environment; eco-friendly solutions will be sought.
- CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage), addressing the challenges of climate change and reducing carbon emissions through carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
- Chemical flooding techniques to enhance oil recovery, with explorations made into how new chemical methods can optimize the oilfield development process.
- Thermal recovery, exploring how heat energy can be effectively utilized to enhance the efficiency of oil extraction.
- CO2 flooding technology, delving into the innovative and applied aspects of carbon dioxide injection for increasing oilfield production.
- Beyond the above topics, other important issues related to energy and oil recovery will be covered to gain a comprehensive understanding of the latest developments and challenges in this field.
We look forward to receiving your submissions and to jointly promoting the theoretical and technological development in the fields of energy and enhanced oil recovery. Other submissions in this area are also welcome.
You may choose our Joint Special Issue in Colloids and Interfaces.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. ChemEngineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
