Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In line 163 there is a citation missing.

Figure 4 would benefit from a more graphical design.

In line 328, while describing natural products targeting LXR and FXR, it would be nice to invite reading the review She 2022 (10.3389/fphar.2021.772435)

Author Response

Thank you for your valuable comments and suggestions.

>In line 163 there is a citation missing.

I added two references.

>Figure 4 would benefit from a more graphical design.

I changed Figure 4.  I hope the new Figure 4 is all right.

>In line 328, while describing natural products targeting LXR and FXR, it would be nice to invite reading the review She 2022 (10.3389/fphar.2021.772435)

I added a sentence "Since many natural products targeting LXR, RXR, PPAR, or FXR have been reported [38,128,129], we expect that increasing numbers of natural products will activate transcription of ABCA1, ABCG1, ABCG5, and ABCG8 in the future." at the end of the section (line 371). I added several references in addition to the review (She 2022, 10.3389/fphar.2021.772435).

Reviewer 2 Report

The review introduces the basic information about the ABC transporters involved in cholesterol transport. Then the author generalizes the transcription and post-transcriptional regulation of the lipid ABC transporters. The author gives a complete introduction about the nucleic receptor regulation to the expression of ABC transporters.

Minor:  there is a minor error in the number of sections in the manuscript.

The English language is adequate for reader to understand.

Author Response

Thank you for your comment that "The author gives a complete introduction about the nucleic receptor regulation to the expression of ABC transporters".

>Minor:  there is a minor error in the number of sections in the manuscript.

I corrected the numbers of sections.

Reviewer 3 Report

The manuscript by Prof. Matsuo describes the regulation of cholesterol transporters by nuclear receptors. This manuscript thoroughly describes the findings from research reported on the regulation of cholesterol transporters by nuclear receptors. The review article has covered the relevant articles on this field of research and will be a great contribution to the field. However, these points need to be addressed to strengthen the review article.

  1. Figure 1 needs little improvement. The ABCG5/ABCG8 mediated cholesterol transport from the liver should be on a separate direction to make it clear that it is excreted into the bile duct.
  2. Although the references are adequate enough still it will be a good idea to put references for line 122 to line 127.

In conclusion, the manuscript is well-organized and comprehensive. It will be a good contribution to the research field.

Author Response

Thank you for your comments that "manuscript is well-organized and comprehensive. It will be a good contribution to the research field."

  1. Figure 1 needs little improvement. The ABCG5/ABCG8 mediated cholesterol transport from the liver should be on a separate direction to make it clear that it is excreted into the bile duct.

I changed Figure 1. The figure of the bile duct is added.

2. Although the references are adequate enough still it will be a good idea to put references for line 122 to line 127.

Several references for line 122 to line 127 were added.

Thank you for your valuable suggestions.
