The objective of this study consists of understanding the relationship of care between health professionals and the person diagnosed with an HIV infection. The constructivist approach of grounded theory was used in this analysis as the study method, with data collection between 2020 and 2021. The analysis of the in-depth interviews gave rise to the central category: ’Revealing the relationship between the professional and the person at the time of the positive result for HIV/AIDS’. The proximal relationships between the nurse and the person influence the emotions and actions of both, reflecting on care, bonding, acceptance, and adherence to the therapeutic regimen. Background: The promotion of professional well-being improves health literacy. Objective: To identify the well-being perceived by health professionals, associated factors, and change strategies. Methodology: Qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study, applying a form with open questions. Content analysis was performed. Results: 32 professionals working in the operating room were mostly satisfied with their well-being at work. Positive factors: good environment, compatible schedules. Negative factors: management of human, material, and team resources. Strategies for change: Management of material, organizational resources, and mental health promotion strategies. Conclusions: Health professionals are generally satisfied with their level of well-being; however, some aspects can be improved. Full article

This case study aims to describe the implementation of the decision-making process in mental health nursing given the care needs identified in a person with Alzheimer’s disease at home. The cognitive assessment, supported by the cognitive decision algorithm, revealed that the patient presented moderate dementia, with visuospatial disorganization, memory changes, orientation, evocation, and constructive abilities. Five sessions of cognitive stimulation were performed to enhance cognitive functions and their maintenance. We concluded that the personalized nursing intervention allowed for stabilizing mental health conditions. Full article

The rapid evolution of the pandemic did not allow for the preparation of different clinical settings. For this reason, the evaluation of the repercussions and the investment in improvement strategies has become important. The aim of this paper was to analyse the impact of COVID-19 on nursing practice environments in Mental Health and Psychiatric Units of three hospitals, through a quantitative observational study. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire with inquiries on the characterization and the SEE-Nursing Practice. We confirmed a positive impact on the Structure and Outcome components of the nursing practice environments and a negative impact on the Process component. Full article

The cancer diagnosis in a child is the trigger for a demanding and complex transition, which requires parents to acquire the knowledge and skills that allow them to take care of their child safely at home. Parental education is a nursing intervention based on a partnership between nurses and parents, consolidating a long path of monitoring and aiming for an established, complex parental role. In the elaborated scoping review, the topics to be addressed and the recommended strategies were identified, which allowed the construction of a systematized, personalized, and adapted intervention plan for the purpose of parental education in paediatric oncology. The description of this clinical nursing intervention reaffirms the therapeutic potential of art therapy in the promotion of mental health in a psychiatric setting. Ten patients participated. An intervention plan was developed based on the nursing process methodology, using the nursing ontology approved by the Portuguese Order of Nurses. The nursing diagnoses related to the intervention group were identified. The aims and the planning of the art therapy sessions were delineated, and, in addition, the assessment strategies. We concluded that art therapy promoted the relationship between the nurse and the therapeutic group, with positive results in self-concept and mood balance. Full article

The COVID-19 pandemic has reduced social mobility and social interactions in periods of confinement. Objective: to evaluate the levels of anxiety, depression, and stress of Portuguese students from two polytechnic institutions. Methodology: correlational descriptive cross-sectional study. The COVID-19 pandemic has reduced social mobility and social interactions in periods of confinement. Objective: to evaluate the levels of anxiety, depression, and stress of Portuguese students from two polytechnic institutions. Methodology: correlational descriptive cross-sectional study. Instrument: Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scale-21, Portuguese version, applied between November 19 and December 4, 2020. Results: about 6.5% of participants reported a severe or extremely severe level of anxiety and depression. Conclusions: Significant differences were found between the affective states of students from the two Polytechnic Institutes, with higher (worse) levels in students from Leiria. Women’s affective states were more negative than men’s. Full article

Atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory, chronic and relapsing skin disease with repercussions for quality of life. This study aims to identify the consequences of atopic dermatitis on the mental health of adolescents, through a narrative review of the literature by research in the EBSCO, Scielo, BVS and Pubmed databases. Studies suggest that adolescents with acute atopic dermatitis may be affected by depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, conduct disorder, autism, sleep and thinking problems, psychosomatic symptoms and suicidal thoughts. Atopic dermatitis has a negative impact on adolescent mental health. Full article
