Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Author:

I was intrigued by your paper on heritage-related activities in rural Chinese communities, especially when I saw that it was based on over two years of data collection. I was then surprised to see that none of the key points in the narrative were backed up by quotes from the people you interviewed. I also found few details about how you came to your conclusions. I have recommended to the Editors that the paper be re-worked to make it clear how the interview data were used and your conclusions developed.

I am also suggesting that the contextual pieces about rural changes in China, ecomuseums, and other topics should be moved to the Introduction, both to help with flow and to further clarify which parts of the paper are being drawn from your research findings.

I have not done a detailed review, given the nature of these concerns, but I have indicated to the Editors that if these points are addressed, I would happy to re-evaluate this paper.

An interesting paper. However, it lacks a broader literature review regarding heritage and rural areas. There are also a number of English editing issues. Also, the author writes as if potential readers understand the Chinese economic and social context within which the research is taking place. More clarity needs to be given in these instances. Please see my edits and comments in the attached PDF.

Round 2

Thank you for making these revisions. The context of the study is much clearer now, and added quotations from your interviews provide valuable insights. I only see very minor formatting issues now, where spaces are missing between words.
