Round  1

Reviewer 1 Report

The literature survey is very very week. The first 3 sentences cover the first 24 references without any comments on the work itself. Considering a total of 28 references, the paper only delves into 4 references. With the general information given in the first three sentences, the paper practically only refers to four references. For proper justification of the work along with differentiation from them, a summary of the previous work needs to be given.

A numerical study must always include grid and time step independence. Otherwise, there is no certainty that the results are representative of the physics. Type of the elements, details and included physics are not given the paper.

For figures 3 and 4, add all the references locations such as elbows, water level etc. Explicitly state that the orientation of the line up is vertical.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors have reported on the numerical study of the gas-water two-phase flow in the self-priming process of self-priming centrifugal pump. The paper is interesting and has potential to be a journal paper. However, a revision is required to improve the quality of the paper. The following should be addressed in the revised paper.

Line 3. Change "of the Self-Priming Process of Self-priming" to "in the Self-Priming Process of Self-Priming"

Line 13. Remove "really"

Line 14. Change "flow of the self-priming process" to "flow in the self-priming process"

Line 14. Change "..., the unsteady numerical calculation on a typical ..." to "..., unsteady numerical calculation of a typical ..."

Line 15. Change "based on ANSYS CFX software" to "using the ANSYS CFX software"

Line 16. Change "It's" to "It was"

Line 25. Change "it can say that" to "it can be said that"

Line 26. Remove "pump's"

Line 36. Change "Based on Fluent software, Liu et al [25] made numerical calculation on the ..." to "Using the Fluent CFD software, Liu et al [25] performed numerical calculation of the ..."

Line 39. Change "true" to "exact"

Line 63. Change "the numerical calculation" to "numerical calculation"

Line 64. Change "of self-priming process" to "in the self-priming process"

Line 64. Change "based on ANSYS CFX" to "using the ANSYS CFX software."

Where is Section 2.1? Looks like there is an error.

Section 2.2: Before discussing the 3D models, it will be informative to include pictures of a practical self-priming centrifugal pump, with pictures of the impeller and diffuser.

Figure 2. Looks like the labels are wrong. Especially, please check label 8 and 9. The quality of figure 2 can be improved such that the details are visible.

Section 2.4: It will be informative to include pictures of the grid. Including close up views of the grids that shows the sections that are shown in figures 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

Throughout the paper the figure and table captions can be improved by providing more details. For example by adding a sentence that explains the important aspect of the result shown.

The authors should read the paper and check for typos and spelling mistakes.

Round  2

Reviewer 1 Report

Thank you for the revision.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors have implemented all the corrections suggested in the review report. I can recommend publication of the paper in the Journal.
