The Presence of Ethics in Initial Teacher Training: Reasons and Implications

Evangelina Bonifácio is a Researcher at the Centre for Transdisciplinary Research in Education and Development (CITED), Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, since 2024. She received a Master’s degree in Education Sciences with a focus on Administration and Education Planning from the Portucalense University in 2000. She then pursued her doctoral studies at the University of Salamanca, obtaining her Ph.D. in Theory and History of Education in 2009. Following this, she furthered her post-doctoral studies in Ethics and Education from the University of Salamanca in 2016 and later in Education Sciences from the Catholic University of Portugal-Porto in 2019. Since 2009, she has held the esteemed position of an Invited Adjunct Professor at the Education School of Bragança Polytechnic Institute. She has previously been a researcher at VALORIZA—Research Centre for the Valorisation of Endogenous and GIR Helmantica Paidea, University of Salamanca. Her research contributions span various facets of Education Sciences. She has actively participated and presented her findings in both national and international congresses as an author or co-author. Her involvement in research project areas has enriched the field, and her collaboration with esteemed institutions like the Federal University of Grande Dourados in Brazil, UNIPIAGET in Mozambique, and the Catholic University of Mozambique.

Adelaide Proença is an Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre. She is a Researcher at VALORIZA—Research Center for the Valorization of Endogenous Resources, Elementary Education Degree Coordinator at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, School of Education of Portalegre, and Sub-coordinator of the Master’s degree in Education and Protection of Children and Young People at Risk at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, School of Education of Portalegre. She is a member of the General Council of the Portalegre Polytechnic University, at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, and a member of the Technical-Scientific Council of the Education and Social Sciences of the Portalegre Polytechnic University, at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, School of Education of Portalegre. She completed her PhD in Research in Teaching and Learning of Experimental, Social, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical and Sports Activity in 2019, from the University of Extremadura—Badajoz Campus, a Master’s in Probability and Statistics in 2009, from the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Sciences, and a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics in 1998, from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Faculty of Sciences and Technology. Her research interests include exact sciences with an emphasis on Mathematics with an emphasis on Statistics and Probability, and Social Sciences with an emphasis on Educational Sciences.

Luísa Carvalho completed her PhD in Education Sciences in 2011 and a Master’s Degree in Education—School Administration in 2005, both from the University of Évora. She completed her degree in Basic Education—1st Cycle in 2002 at the Portalegre Polytechnic (PP). She is Adjunct Professor, member of the Technical-Scientific Council and the Pedagogical Council at the PP’s School of Education and Social Sciences (ESECS). She was the deputy director of ESECS. She is a member of CARE—Research Center on Health and Social Sciences (PP) and a collaborator of CIEP—Centre for Research in Education and Psychology of the University of Évora. She has published in journals and book chapters, as author and co-author. She participated in juries for specialist, master’s, and doctoral degrees. She has received several academic awards. She is a reviewer for various national and international scientific journals. She has taken part in various research projects in the field of Education Sciences, namely funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (Portugal), and is currently a member of teams working on intervention/research projects funded by different organizations. She works in the field of Education Sciences, with special emphasis on non-formal education, basic education, lifelong education, and active ageing.
