I found the research as well as the research design exemplary. The discussion of the field of Cultural Linguistics was an excellent way to introduce readers to the kind of questions that are treated when this CL approach to the data is utilized. Overall I found the material discussed fascinating. The use of this death related naming tradition was totally new to me, and I appreciated the commentary on similar naming traditions in African languages other than Igbo. The author’s familiarity with the existing research on this topic provides an avenue for other investigators to explore the topic even further and or to integrate these results into their own research, that is, how the different frames or categories of death-oriented names act to reveal the underlying cultural-cognitive attitudes of Igbo speakers to death and dying.
