Comments and Suggestions for Authors

General and specific comments

This work revises the microbial contamination in cosmetic products. The research and the manuscript are relevant for the cosmetic industry, and also for consumers to avoid certain behaviors that can lead to contamination of cosmetics for home or professional use.

The experimental design is appropriate to test the hypothesis, and the tables, graphs, and schemes are also suitable. The conclusions are consistent with the evidence and arguments presented; and the references are relevant.

Nevertheless, a minor revision should be made, focused mainly on writing errors.

  • Microorganism names should be written in italics, for example: Staphylococcus aureus. Please review the scientific names of microorganisms throughout the text.
  • Lines 160, and 236. Genus of the microorganisms should be as follows: Aspergillus spp
  • Line 340. Temperature: should be written properly (23 °C)

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The manuscript titled as “Microbial Contamination in Cosmetic Products” gives brief information about the major contamination problems that can be seen in cosmetics. The manuscript also describes the importance of microbiological stability, gives information about the regulations and supports statistical knowledge worldwide.

This type of reviews about cosmetic products are precious for reaching the newest data about the regulations and databases for microbiological stability of cosmetics. Besides using RAPEX database, which is new for me also, and comparing with ISO regulations increases the novelty of the manuscript.

The main question addressed by the research is to review the major contaminants and to give information about the regulations.

The importance of topic comes from the frequency of microbial contamination on cosmetics. The newest regulatory situation, giving worldwide data and explanation of ISO-RAPEX are the importance and originality of the topic.

Besides the manuscript is written with the support of new references, which the authors did not use any unethical self-citation. The use of tables and figures are appropriate. They be easily understandable and I didn’t detect any plagiarism.

Because of the reasons given above I accepted the manuscript.

The manuscript is well organized and acceptible without any further revisions.

However, if applicable I suggest to add ISO guidelines and RAPEX as keyword. Also "Environmental Project No. 1336 2010 Miljøprojekt" can be added to reference 12.
