Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper is well structured and clearly explained and referenced. 28/5000

I only have two questions:

Is the test procedure normalized? If so, indicate the standard Is the jute-FRP mix easy to manufacture and apply?

Author Response

a) Is the test procedure normalized? If so, indicate the standard.

Response: Only the compressive strength of confined specimens is normalized. Due to the difference in unconfined concrete compressive strengths (f’co), the compressive strength of JPFRP-confined concrete (f’cc)  of the group (A, B, C and D) is normalized by dividing it with the unconfined concrete strength, recorded for its corresponding batch. The purpose of this normalization was to clearly observe the relationship between concrete strength and the considered parameters.

b) Is the jute-FRP mix easy to manufacture and apply?

Response: The jute fiber manufacturing is simple and easy. Moreover, it can be easily applied by hand lay-up method which is explained on page 5 of the manuscript.

Reviewer 2 Report

It was a pleasure to read and review this article. The goal of this manuscript is attempting to investigate experimentally and analytically the suitability and structural performance of JPFRP as confinement of circular and square standard concrete specimens. This research study is interesting and the subject fits within the scope of the journal. The reviewer would like to recommend acceptance of the paper, but the authors should consider the following comments in the final manuscript:

1)      Table 2: unit is missing.

2)      Figures 6, 12: resolutions should be improved.

3)      Figure 11: x-axis caption ‘No’ should be modified as ‘No.’

Author Response

1)      Table 2: unit is missing.

2)      Figures 6, 12: resolutions should be improved.

3)      Figure 11: x-axis caption ‘No’ should be modified as ‘No.’

Response: All points are addressed in the manuscript

Title: Performance of Concrete Confined with Jute-Polyester Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composite: A Novel Strengthening Technique

Authors: Nauman Wahab, Penjit Srinophakun, Qudeer Hussain, Preeda Chaimahawan

This paper presents the experimental and analytical results of circular and square concrete confined with jute-polyester hybrid FRP composites.

According to the reviewer, both the subject and the proposed approach to solving the task are appropriate. The program and scope of research adopted accordingly.

The main subject and the goal of the work are described well. However, the author can improve the quality of the paper with the suggestions given below.

Comments:

Conclusions

Line 718, sentence: “The hybrid-confinement can be used to protect concrete cover spalling and prevention of moisture penetration. In addition, it can be used in a place where low to moderate strength and high ductility is needed.” should be specified.

Editing errors:

Table 2, p. 5 “75Mpa” should be “75 MPa”

Table 2, p. 5 no unit and add water / cement ratio

p. 3 line 184 and line 204 and Table 5 “cm3” should be “cm3

Table 5, p. 12 “MPa” should be “MPa” and Figure 10 b “f’cc/f’co”

Author Response

Line 718, sentence: “The hybrid-confinement can be used to protect concrete cover spalling and prevention of moisture penetration. In addition, it can be used in a place where low to moderate strength and high ductility is needed.” should be specified.

Response: This sentence has been revised to a specific place. The hybrid-confinement can be used to protect the peeling of concrete cover and prevention of moisture penetration in a humid environment. In addition, it can be used in an earthquake-prone area, where low to moderate strength and high ductility is required.

Editing errors:

Table 2, p. 5 “75Mpa” should be “75 MPa”

Table 2, p. 5 no unit and add water / cement ratio

p. 3 line 184 and line 204 and Table 5 “cm3” should be “cm3

Table 5, p. 12 “MPa” should be “MPa” and Figure 10 b “f’cc/f’co”

Response: All the editing mistakes are rectified in the manuscript.
