A Review of Effects of Femtosecond Laser Parameters on Metal Surface Properties
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This review article provides an overview of the technology of femtosecond laser microfabrication applied to the generation of periodic structures on different materials. First, the authors provide a general description of the main parameters that can be tailored for achieving LIPSS with the desired properties. Then, they focus on some interesting applications in the field of optics, biomedicine and more technical ones such as the possibility to engineer the surface wettability and friction.
I found the paper to be enjoyable and interesting, although there were quite a few grammatical and typographical errors, and I would suggest the authors to carefully proof read their manuscript before publication e.g in lines 43, 62-63, 73-77, 81-84, 109. Then, as a symbol for the laser fluence first F is used, then phi, then F again, and this could be misleading. Also the units of measurements should always have the same format (either italic or not).
Other than these minor typographical / grammatical issues, I like the paper, and enjoyed reading it. Therefore, once the minor issues have been corrected, I recommend the publication of the paper on Coatings.

Comments
the authors have definitely spent lots of time to read and gather the information from more than 100 of papers. But the work cannot be accepted as a review. why?
1- the title is neither relevant nor clear!
Application of Femtosecond Laser in Biomedicine: A Review of Research Progress on Laser-Induced Periodic Structures.
As an application of LIPSS in Biomedicine the authors have provided just one section in one page giving very little information regarding to LIPSS application in Biomedicine. The manuscript seems to be more a review on the laser parameters required to produce LIPSS.
2- a review is usually written by those researchers who themselves have performed lots of work in the relevant field. In this review no reference can be found to the authors research and publications.
3- a review is not just collecting and gathering information from published papers. This can be done even by a student. What is the contribution of other three authors??
4- in the field of laser ablation and LIPSS processing, the main challenge is the explanation of ablation process and LIPSS producing. What physics is behind the LSFL and HSFL? The manuscript presents nothing concerning the physical phenomena leading to ablation or LIPSS generation!

The author introduced the surface treatment technology of biomedical materials using femtosecond laser. The author has referenced biomedical application papers to which various laser surface treatment technologies are applied, and related pictures have been inserted. Please check whether the drawings in the references inserted in this paper are with the permission of the original author. In addition, in the “4. Application of LIPSS” section, it will be easy for the reader to read if there are tables briefly, such as laser characteristics and operating conditions, applied laser technology, surface treatment methods, and applications in the references. Finally, although the keyword “Biomedicine” is used in the title, the overall content of the text is not limited to “Biomedicine”. It would be better to choose a more inclusive term.
Minor check
1. Correctly represent subscripts of SI units in the body text and figure captions.
2. Subscripts of molecular formulas must be correctly expressed in the text.

whereas the authors tried to improve the manuscript but as a review paper it is not sufficient. even the title has not been modified, the one which does not represent clearly the context of the manuscript.
