- Exclusion criteria: subjects with acute or chronic diseases related to HL, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and/or cancer; current use or use within the 30 days prior to sample collection of ototoxic drugs, vitamin supplements, probiotics, and/or prebiotics; history of surgical interventions of the auditory system; family history of early-onset HL; or known auditory pathologies such as otitis, otosclerosis, or Ménière’s disease.
