“A Probabilistic Method for Estimating the Percentage of Corrosion Depth on the Inner Bottom Plates of Aging Bulk Carriers”
This manuscript gives an approach to estimate the probabilistic percent corrosion depth model for inner bottom plates of fuel oil tanks located in the double bottom of aging bulk carriers. The topic itself is of interest and the manuscript can be considered for publication after some improvement and revision.
Below are listed my comments:
- English should be carefully revised. The manuscript reads very hard, there are a lot of repetitions and some grammar mistakes.
- Methodology: The Authors should clearly state what is the novelty of the proposed method and what benefits it gives in comparison to the previously published data?
- Despite the age of the ships, materials used for its production, type and a number of maintenance services are important factors, which affect the corrosion degradation. I think this information should be also mentioned and commented on.
- The authors examined fuel tanks. In this regard, corrosion of the material will be strongly affected by the type of fuel used. I also suppose it will be heterogeneous (local or intergranular). Is it then reliable to use the model for general corrosion?
- Some places in the manuscript require references (lines 56, 76, 82-85).
- I miss Conclusions section, where the authors will sum up their findings and postulate new information gathered in the manuscript and how it can be further used.
