Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper is a follow-up to a previous paper from the same authors [32]. The author explained clearly. This paper adds the feature of the CLA detection that significantly improves the algorithm performance when there are more than four adhesions. The method is well presented and the language is clear. Attached are some suggestions and typos to correct for the authors.

Hello to dear authors

Thanks for your efforts in applying modern techniques in Geosciences and mining engineering. there are some comments about your manuscript from me :

1- Generally you need some information about mineralogy and ore deposit which is studied (Raw data or study area). please provide some details about mineralogy, geology, ore deposit and studied area (geological map).

2- the case study (studied area) should be mentioned in the title.

3- Abstract needs to rewrite (More information about the area, type of substance and purpose).

4- The introduction section should regularly include objectives. Please list the objectives at the end of the section.

5- Is Figure 1 the product of your research? or taken from somewhere else. If it is not prepared by you, please provide a reference.

6- Figure 7 needs a scale, please add on.

7- Figures 9, 10 and 11 are appropriate but not required (remove if possible). You need a comprehensive flowchart for your research methodology to show readers the technical flow. Your methodology part is confusing now. Please prepare a flowchart (from the beginning to the end of the research) and add it at the end of the methodology section.

8- Figures 12, 13 and 17 need scale. please provide scales for them.

9-Please describe the applications of your results in research and industry.

10- Please check for typos and grammatical errors throughout the text.

I am waiting for your answers and corrections.

Best regards

Reviewer 4 Report

I am sorry that I cannot completely follow the algorithm in the manuscript. So, I failed to check the effectiveness and correctness of the algorithm proposed in the manuscript. Overall, the algorithm seems to be interesting and valuable for pit detection and segmentation of particle adhesion and overlapping targets. As shown in the pdf file, the manuscript has been revised according to the previous comments. Before its possible publication, some minor revisions are necessary.

(1) The citation should be unified throughout the manuscript, i.e., the use of the authors in the citations.

(2) A list of abbreviations should be given for better readability.

(3) The last two paragraphs in Introduction Section: It seems that the authors just list the contributions of the previous publications, however, the research gap is not clear. The contribution of this manuscript should be enhanced in Introduction Section.

(4) The title of Figure 12: “pit” should be “Pit”

(5) Table 1: How do you obtain the results of the other four methods? Do you use the results or do you adopt the algorithms?

Hello again

Thank you for your appropriate responses and corrections. I think your manuscript is fine for publication (from my overview of earth sciences and mining engineering).

Best regards
