- SSET-Teacher (SSET-T): This version of teacher-rated measures school self-esteem through teacher perception, based on systematic observation of behaviours indicative of self-esteem in the school context. The SSET-T consists of 19 items (e.g., “Feels capable, useful, important to peers”; “Expresses confidence in abilities”) with a 4-point Likert response format: Rarely (1 point), Sometimes (2 points), Usually (3 points), and Always (4 points). The total score ranges from 19 to 76 points, with higher scores indicating greater school self-esteem. The instrument has adequate psychometric properties in the Chilean population, with internal consistency of α = 0.94 and test–retest reliability of r = 0.82 (Marchant et al., 2016). Concurrent validity studies with the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory have shown significant correlations (r = 0.67, p < 0.001), supporting its construct validity (Marchant et al., 2016).

- SSET-Student (SSET-S): This self-assessment version was culturally adapted from the Piers–Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale (Piers, 1984) for the Chilean population. The SSET-S comprises 23 dichotomous items (e.g., “I am bothered by my appearance, how I look”; “I am lucky”) with a Yes/No response format. Each response consistent with positive self-esteem receives 1 point, while responses indicative of low self-esteem score 0. The total score ranges from 0 to 23 points, with higher scores reflecting higher self-esteem. The SSET-S exhibits satisfactory psychometric properties, with internal consistency of α = 0.81 and temporal stability of r = 0.76 over a four-week interval (Marchant et al., 2016). Construct validity has been supported by confirmatory factor analysis, identifying a unidimensional structure of school self-esteem with adequate fit indices (CFI = 0.92, RMSEA = 0.06).The differences in self-esteem scores between the different school levels should be interpreted considering the type of informant rather than as an evolutionary change, since the evaluations carried out by teachers and the students’ self-reports capture complementary but different perspectives of the same construct.

| 1 | The SIP is a programme that provides guidelines for achieving inclusion for all students through guidelines in line with global organisations that promote the inclusion of diversity at all levels of the education system (Fierro-Saldaña, 2024). This programme considers the participation of schoolchildren with temporary needs (such as attention deficit disorder, specific learning difficulties, borderline intellectual disability and language disorder) as well as permanent needs (autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, sensory and motor disability). The Ministry of Education in Chile defines Transitional Special Educational Needs (TNEEs) as those in which students need extraordinary help and support to access or progress in the curriculum for a certain period of their schooling, while students with Permanent Special Educational Needs (PSENs) are those who experience barriers to learning and participation throughout their schooling as a result of a disability (MINEDUC, 2010a, 2010b). |
