the manuscript is interesting but needs some improvements before the next step.

Introduction

The authors may have already provided the good literature review. Please add the authors’ new contribution to the published knowledge when you cite the contribution of gyrothermal system. Please read and cite: “The chemistry and isotopic composition of waters in the low-enthalpy geothermal system of Cimino-Vico Volcanic District, Italy”, Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research Open Access Volume 328, Pages 222 – 229. Add even an explanation about the Geothermal systems that are classified based on the reservoir temperature etc etc

Sampling

Please give more details about the sampling depth (not generic shallow, medium and deep)

Please add quality control for ALL the analyses.

Alkalinity, please give details about the volume of the HCl used etc etc.

Please add a geochemical explanation for the water-rock interaction; not only a simple discussion about relationship with the sedimentary mineral uptake.

Abstract do not refer to contaminant without any other information about which type of contaminant…. Refer to trace elements high concentrations or something like this.

The paper investigates the effectiveness of damming for improving water quality by assessing the water sources and chemical distribution in local area. The detailed comments are as follows:

1. Add the SI units and the expression of y axis in Figures and Tables, properly.
2. The physical meaning of SAR and SI should be explained and why these are needed in this study. Add the number of the equations in text.
3. The technical description of the obtained data shown in Figs. 5 and 6 should be given.
4. Compare the results for the test data of Sochagota Lake and Paipa region in terms of figures or statement in text.
