1. The paper is discuss the "Measurement of sulfur-dioxide emissions from ocean-going vessels", but SOx/CO2 ratio is not mentioned in the conclusion, please specify the carbon emissions and SOx/CO2 ratio.This is a regulatory requirement.

2. Please provide the CO2 emission regulations in the background and calculate the CO2 emissions.

General comments:

This is a very relevant study. Monitoring of emissions from the (maritime) industry is crucial for proper implementation of regulations. The authors’ contribution to the field is novel and practical. I therefore recommend the publication of the paper.

 

Specific comments:

Lines 123-124. The authors state: “In this mode, the ozone converter intended for the transformation of NOx to NO was bypassed”…

I believe this is should be the other way around: ozone is a strong oxidizing gas, it would convert NO to higher oxidized NOx forms (NO2, N2O4, etc.). Please double-check. And also verify session 3.3 for the same issue.

Line 182. The authors mention the use of an operational threshold (Tops) for the NO/NOx ratio. It would be good to inform which threshold value is used, and how it was derived.

Lines 237-238. “Consequently the use of parametrical tests was recommended, and non-parametrical were used”. There seems to be a mistake in the sentence, please check.

 

Regarding the HC kicker, it’s hard to understand what is off the shelve, and what is part of the author’s work. I think some extra explanation is needed to bring more clarity to the paper. Is the custom-built HC kicker mentioned in line 302 the same as the 10 standard HC kickers described in lines 139-141?
