Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper presents the relationships of temporal/spatial distribution of SDHR to the topography in the BTH region. The formats presented are appropriate, but some of the details can be improved.

  1. Temperature and/or temperature changes are the important factors for SDHR, I suggest using local time instead of UTC in all analyses.
  2. Summer monsoon retreats in late August, the usage of monthly divisions for statistics is not appropriate.
  3. In Figure 7b, the number of frequency depends on how you count it. The unit of the vertical axis is not clear. The statistics can be made daily or monthly basis. Figure 7a already shows the statistics on monthly basis.
  4. In Figures 1c & 1d, I didn't see the centers of SDHR on the eastern slopes of the Taihang Mountains.
  5. There are too many labels of 'Hebei' in figure 1c. The brown-red dots in figure 1c represent the building area, what are the brown-red dots in figure 1a?
  6. Precipitation occurs when water droplets condense out of saturated air. So, SDHR is usually caused by two factors: the increased amount of water vapor in the air, and the changes in temperature/pressure of air. So, in your study area, the changes of three factors are important for SDHR: change of topography which causes pressure change, Local time (change of temperature), and wind speed and direction which bring humid and hot air inland. There are such valuable high density weather station data in BTH, factors analysis or multivariant regression may help for future analysis.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

I looked at the revised article. The authors clarified all my concerns.
I recommend the revised version for publication.
